What began 41 years ago to promote cooperation between neighborhoods and police organizations is still going strong with National Night Out being observed this first Tuesday in August.
The first event saw 2-1/2 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states meeting up with law enforcement and community organizations. By tonight, according to the National Night Out website, there will be 38 million people participating in 17 thousand communities in the US, with Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Fond du Lac, Port Washington and Two Rivers among them.
In Sheboygan the events headquarters are at King Park, hosting displays of law enforcement and emergency vehicles along with exhibits from nearly 50 safety and community organizations. Food trucks will sell refreshments while a DJ provides music.
There’s no charge to attend; just come spend the night out with your neighbors at King Park. The event runs from 4:30 until 7:30 PM.
