Staff with the National Weather Service say that a confirmed funnel cloud was spotted on Saturday afternoon near Manitowoc.
Meteorologists say that it formed just northwest of the city at around 4:21 PM Saturday. The storm didn’t last long, but long enough to cause tree and property damage, especially near Stone Road close to Highway 10 and I-43. Crews will investigate the scene to determine if a tornado touched down.
The National Weather Service suspects that cool air off Lake Michigan interacted with strong thunderstorm winds which may have been just the right ingredients to spin up a brief tornado. They indicated that this type of twister can develop quickly, often without clear warnings from weather radar.
