Norman J. Berg was born on November 5, 1928 and went to be with his Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ and deceased family members and friends on June 17, 2025 at the age of
96. He attended school at Holy Name, Urban, and North High School, where he played
basketball, football and ran track.
He worked for Leverenz Shoe Company where he met his future wife, Frances and
tended bar part-time at the Playdium Bowling Alley. Norman was hired as a deputy
sheriff with the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s department where he was employed for 24
years before his retirement in 1983. He was promoted on the department to the ranks
of sergeant on the Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP), was a patrol sergeant and
became a lieutenant of patrol where he served until his retirement. When originally
hired, Norman also worked part-time for a private garbage collection company. He
attended numerous law enforcement and management training programs including
some at Northwestern University Traffic Institute.
Norman was drafted into the United States military and proudly served in the U.S. Army
from 1951-1953 during the Korean War years and was stationed in Germany in an
artillery unit.
On September 15, 1951 Norman was united in marriage with Frances M. Chopich at Ss.
Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. They remained married for 66 years until her
death in 2017. He was a loving father, grand and great-grandfather who put family first.
Over the years, Norman enjoyed playing softball and bowling in various Sheboygan
leagues and sponsors. He managed his sons, Glenn and James when they played
softball on the same team. In addition, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons,
daughter Donna, other family members and numerous beagle hunting dogs. Spending
time with family, grand and great-grandchildren was very important to Norman.
Norman was an avid Wisconsin sports teams fan of the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and
Bucks, but held a sweet spot in his heart for the Brooklyn, later to become the Los
Angeles Dodgers.
Family survivors include: his son, Glenn (Linda Lou); grandchildren Amy Berg (partner
Rob Drone), Michael Berg (partner Nadia Sarakbi), Angela (Jerrod) Jensema, James
Worth, Jonathan (Stacy) Berg, Jessica Berg and Jeremy Berg; 9 great-grandchildren,
Elijah, Lotus, Brynlee, Patchouli, Landon, Stella, Emirah, Yarrow and Hayes; son-in-law,
John Worth; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; children James “Jimbo” (Lynda) Berg
and Donna Worth; paternal parents, Ethan “Jim” and Wilma Berg; maternal parents,
Jacob and Margaret Chopich; brothers-in-law, Edward Chopich, John (Delores)
Chopich, and Leonard (Justina) Zunker.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church,
1439 S. 12 th St., Sheboygan, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Memorials to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Norman’s name are
appreciated.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Matthew Hemsing and his
nurse Carrie, Countryside Manor Assisted Living and all its staff with a special thanks to
Shontea, and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice staff and special thanks to
Todd, R.N. for all the care they provided to Norman. Also, sincere appreciation and
gratitude to granddaughter Amy Berg for all her help during this time.
