Students studying the humanities at Lakeland University will find expanded learning opportunities following receipt of a nearly 60-thousand dollar ($59,425) grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The grant aims to provide Lakeland students in the School of Humanities & Fine Arts with the career-building experiences they need to pursue humanities-related jobs.
The two-year grant announced on Thursday will be targeted toward Lakeland students enrolled as majors or minors in its humanities and fine arts areas. The University’s Humanities and Fine Arts Board of Advocates, along with existing partnerships in the area, will also be bolstered in their abilities to connect with area non-profits and small businesses that would otherwise struggle to pay a student intern.
Experiential learning placements employ such things as internships, fieldwork, service learning and co-ops in order to support students progress toward a humanities-based career. Networking events are in the works that will help connect Lakeland humanities faculty and students with a broader group of area employers.
