Gertrude A. Hameister, known as Gertie to her family and friends, 95, of Sheboygan, passed away
peacefully on April 16, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Gertie was born on February 13, 1930 in Schwarzwald to the late Oscar and Ella (Lutze) Marx. Gertie
loved growing up on her family farm and often talked about all the animals. She attended a one-room
schoolhouse in Schwarzwald. She graduated from Kiel High School with the Class of 1947 and enjoyed
yearly class reunions.
On November 10, 1951 she married Raymond Hameister at St. John’s United Church of Christ,
Schwarzwald. The couple resided in Cleveland and became Sheboygan residents in 1956. She was a
member of First Congregational UCC, Sheboygan.
In addition to raising a family, Gertie worked a variety of jobs in the Sheboygan area, including Prange’s
bakery and fabric departments. Gertie was a sports fan, she liked watching baseball and basketball. She
also enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling, playing sheepshead and special times spent with her family at
their cottage on Wilke Lake.
Gertie is survived by her two sons DuWayne (Carla) Hameister and Gary (Chris) Hameister; two
daughters, LuAnn (Victor) Pappas and Cheryl (Paul) Meyer; nine grandchildren; Joseph (Katie), Michael,
Steven, Jonathan, Maria (Alan), Carissa (Kyle), Ryan (Abbey), Maxwell and Jack; four great-
grandchildren, Landon, Rowan, Holden and Natalie; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Hameister; her parents Oscar and Ella Marx; her siblings
Orval (Cleora), Norman and Adeline (Ervin).
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Remington for his exceptional care through the years. The
family would also like to thank the compassionate caregivers at Harvest Home and Sharon S. Richardson
Community Hospice for their kindness, dedication and support.
A funeral service for Gertie will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Zimmer Westview
Funeral & Cremation Care Center, W2132 Garton Road, Howards Grove. The family will greet relatives
and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. She will be laid to rest at St. John’s UCC,
Schwarzwald.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Gertie’s memory to Sharon S. Richardson
Community Hospice or First Congregational UCC, Sheboygan.
