Wisconsin has one of the most impressive records in the nation when it comes to the semi-annual campaign to remove unused medicine from the streets – and the environment. Maintaining that record can again be met with ample participation in the upcoming Take-Back Medication Day on Saturday, April 26th.
Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. that day, four locations will be staffed in order to receive prescription and over-the-counter medications, whether for people, or for pets. Improper disposal can release substances into the environment that can affect wildlife, and eventually can even show up in the water we drink. Worse yet, unused or unwanted medication can fall into the hands of abusers or children, and so events like the drug take-back day can have a direct effect on better health.
The four sites, at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, Generations in Plymouth, the Random Lake Fire Department, and the Sheboygan Falls Police Department will accept those medications, as well as vape devices with batteries removed. People are being reminded to cross out any personally-identifying information on prescription bottles before dropping them off.
Again, the national spring collection takes place on Saturday, the 26th.
