An early Thursday morning pursuit in Fond du Lac County reached extreme speeds before ending with an arrest.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was contacted at around 3:30 Thursday morning by the Wisconsin State Patrol, who relayed that they were in pursuit of a southbound vehicle on I-41 that was operating in excess of 100 mph. The Trooper ended the pursuit upon that report, with the responsibility handed off further down the route to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department.
As reports of the vehicle’s breakneck passage down I-41 continued being received, it became apparent that the driver, now weaving through both lanes, was possibly impaired. Sheriff’s Deputies then set up near the Fond du Lac – Winnebago County Line on I-41 where the suspect was clocked at over 110 mph while weaving in both lanes and disregarding the emergency lights and siren of the chasing officers, and eventually reached a speed of 120 mph.
Stop Stick tire deflation devices were then deployed on I-41 at Townline Road near North Fond du Lac. A second device deployed by the Wisconsin State Patrol was needed before the vehicle came to a stop with three flat tires near County Highway “OO”, about a mile and a half further down the line after the first attempt with the device.
The driver, a 25-year-old woman from Appleton, was taken into custody without further incident, and is now in the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of felony fleeing and eluding, as well as suspicion of operating while intoxicated. The entire chase stretched about 6.6 miles, and nobody was injured.
