Robert C. Gorges, age 85, of Sheboygan passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
He was born in New London, WI on August 28, 1939, to the late Clarence and Bernice
(Baumgarten) Gorges. Bob was united in marriage to Marian Gobar on June 3. 1961, in
Baraboo, WI. He was a faithful member of First United Lutheran Church, serving on the church
council and the church property committee. He was also a part of both the YMCA Y’s Men’s
Club and the Boy Scouts Troop 61 for 28 years.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in 1961 with a B.S. in science,
chemistry, physics and math. In 1965, Bob did graduate work at the University of Minnesota,
Cornell University, Hope College, Florida State University, the University of Berkley, M.A.T. and
Brown University of Providence, R.I. In 1970, Bob was in the High School Teacher Training
program in India. Bob was an educator at Sheboygan North High School for 35 years, serving on
the student council advisor board for 28 years. He served on many boards and councils over the
years including the District Wide K-12 Science Program, the Sheboygan Public Education
Foundation, the Booster Club, The Stephanie Weill Center and the Sheboygan County Historical
Research Center.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Marian; sons, Tom (Mary) Gorges and Mike (Wendy) Gorges;
grandchildren, Michael, Jack, Kaden (special friend Kloee Wappler) and Brenton and a sister,
Yvonne (Bill) Frink; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Gorges and his sister
Nickie Gorges.
A Memorial Service for Bob will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 21, 2025, at First
United Lutheran Church, 2401 Kohler Memorial Drive. The family will greet visitors at the
church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Placement of Bob's urn will take
place within the church columbarium. Bob's service will be livestreamed and available to view
on his obituary page on the funeral home website.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations can be made in Bob’s name to First
United Lutheran Church, North High Booster Club Inc., or Meals on Wheels.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Johnson and any other medical staff that has helped
Bob through his health journey.
