A high-speed chase in Fond du Lac County ended in a crash and an arrest, but only minor injuries were sustained. Reports of a vehicle traveling southbound out of Winnebago County at high speeds on I-41 while passing vehicles on the shoulder came in at around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday. A Wisconsin State Trooper had tried – and failed to catch up to and stop the vehicle, which was traveling in excess of 100 mph. A Sergeant with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office then spotted the offender on Highway 175 in the Township of Byron. An unsuccessful stop attempt led to another high-speed pursuit on County Road “B” until it entered the intersection of Highway 175 and County Road “F”. That’s where the chase ended as the vehicle sideswiped a milk hauler, entered a ditch and struck a telephone pole.
The 25-year-old Waukesha man driving the vehicle tried to run from the scene but was immediately taken into custody. He, and a female passenger, were both transported and treated for minor injuries. The driver now faces charges of Felony Eluding and First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and an investigation into the event is ongoing.
