A winter that under-performed on snowfall has added up to a moderate drought in Sheboygan County. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration measured similar conditions extending into surrounding counties to the south and west as well, while covering all but the extreme northwestern reaches of Sheboygan County.
February’s precipitation came in at only about 1/3 of the usual with .31” recorded at the airport.
While the moderate drought is now weeks-long, forecasters expect that conditions will improve enough to eliminate the drought in the near future. How that plays into the start of the planting season isn’t yet known, however the long-range forecast indicates above normal temperatures and precipitation for the last two weeks of this month.
