One person has died as the result of an early Saturday morning traffic accident in the Township of Waupun in neighboring Fond du Lac County. Reports of the accident were received at around 1:45 a.m. Saturday, sending responders to the site on Highway 26 about 4 miles north of the City of Waupun.
Preliminary investigation suggests that a vehicle being operated southbound on Highway 26 couldn’t maintain the lane, crossed the center line and struck a northbound commercial truck head-on. The collision resulted in the death of 20-year-old Alexa J. Dunn of Menominee Falls, the only occupant of the vehicle. The truck driver, 64-year-old Michael May of Randolph sustained only minor injuries for which he was treated at a hospital and released.
The investigation is ongoing, but alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
