A man is dead after officials say he produced a hand gun during a confrontation with officers attempting his arrest in the Town of Fond du Lac on Monday evening.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice has been charged with investigating the incident, which it said occurred last evening around 6 Oโclock when Fond du Lac County Sheriffโs deputies contacted a subject with a known felony warrant via telephone. During the phone encounter a citizen apparently observing the subject of interest tipped officers off to what appeared to be a handgun in the subjectโs waistband.
Deputies zeroed in on the man a short time later on Cherrywood Drive in the Woodland Park Mobile Home Community.
A deputy used a non-lethal weapon in an attempt to subdue the man after he refused to follow commands, after which the subject produced what was believed to be a firearm. A second deputy then fired at, and struck the man who was given lifesaving measures at the scene, but was pronounced deceased en route to the hospital.
Involved officers were wearing body cams and there were no other injuries. The deputy who fired their weapon was placed on administrative assignment, per agency policy.
