An Intense period of snowfall, with moderate-heavy snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour is forecast to overtake the Sheboygan area during tonight’s evening commute, prompting the National Weather Service to post a Winter Weather Advisory to begin at 6 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, periods of moderate snow may again be seen.

NWS Graphic
The burst is expected to cross Sheboygan County beginning round 5:30, progressing eastward with the heaviest bands exiting by 11 p.m. The timing threatens the flow of the Friday evening commute, and could cause rapidly deteriorating visibility and road conditions. After the burst clears the area, occasional resurgences of moderate snow will probably punctuate an otherwise steady, light snowfall overnight. From now through 6 a.m. Saturday, 3-6 inch total accumulations will be widespread in Sheboygan County. The chances of exceeding 4” are about 57%, and the Winter Weather Advisory was to be in effect through 6 a.m. Saturday.
Some snow will be likely for nearly all of Saturday and Sunday. And with a high degree of uncertainty in the data, the National Weather Service wasn’t ready to go on record with exact locations, while advising that a band of heavier snowfall is likely to set up somewhere in the area that could become problematic. For now, total snowfall accumulations from Friday evening through Sunday night are forecast to reach between 8 and 9 inches in Sheboygan County. With Friday night temperatures in the mid 20s the snow texture won’t be as fluffy as on Wednesday, but neither should it be wet and heavy. Densities will probably increase beginning on Saturday as more moisture and 30-degree temperatures hold sway.

NWS Graphic
Arctic cold will surge in behind the snow system with lows Sunday night reaching around 6 below, and windchill readings headed as low as -26 by Monday Morning. An even colder Tuesday is forecast to follow as Winter exerts its grip.
