A Fond du Lac County Sheriff Deputy assigned as a School Resource Officer to the Campbellsport School District quickly relayed information received about plans to conduct a school shooting there, resulting in the arrests of two 9th grade students.
A release from Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Alex Volm said an investigation into the Deputy’s information led to the students who were reportedly making direct plans, comments, and threats to other students and staff that involved a school shooting. The two juveniles of concern have been placed in secure detention while the investigation continues, and are now awaiting a future court hearing on criminal charges.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the safety of students and staff is of the highest priority. It went on to say that: “We know that incidents like this can cause anxiety for students, families and staff. We want the public to be informed of this situation and emphasize school safety through the importance of telling an adult, teacher or law enforcement if there is a concern or threat of any kind. We are all working together to keep our schools safe.”
Those with concerns or school tips are being encouraged to report them to the Wisconsin Department of Justice through their “Speak up Speak Out” website.
