A Sheboygan man is hospitalized for unspecified injuries after being arrested for mistreating his dog on Thursday. Sheboygan Police were called to do a welfare check in the 900 block of N. 11th Street, where they spotted blood outside of the home. During a subsequent search of the area for the resident, evidence was uncovered indicating that person had abused his dog, which had died of its injuries.
A short time later Police located the subject in the downtown area. The man was armed with a knife and would not cooperate with police commands. Several more officers arrived and used what was called “less-than-lethal” munitions and a taser in order to take the man into custody. Officers saw a number of injuries unrelated to his custody struggle and took him to a local hospital before he was conveyed by ambulance to Milwaukee for further treatment.
The investigation is still underway, and charges are expected to be forthcoming from the Sheboygan County District Attorney’s Office.
