
Frank J. Lohr Jr. of Sheboygan Falls passed away on January 30, 2025 in Sun City, AZ.
Frank was born on August 2, 1932 to Frank and Hilda (Claussen) Lohr. He graduated from
Sheboygan Central High School and later served his country in the US Navy as a weather
observer in Kodiak, AK honorably discharged in 1955.
Frank married Violet Butzen on July 21, 1956 in the town of Wilson. Violet preceded him in
death in 2008. On Feb 9, 2014, Frank joined Marlys Nonhof in marriage.
Frank worked for Wisconsin Bell System (later AT&T), holding various positions in the
company for over 37 years retiring in 1994. He was active with the Isaak Walton
League conservation group. Frank was also a Sheboygan County representative at the
Conservation Congress in Madison. As a youth, he attained the rank of Eagle scout and later
became a scout leader. Frank was an active member of American Legion Post 149 Sheboygan
Falls participating in parades and military funeral honors. He was a church usher at Crown of
Life Lutheran church, Arizona.
Frank was an avid hunter and fisher, taking many trips with his brother and friends to Canada
and Lake Erie. He was very proud of the cottage he built "up norf", spending time fishing with
family and friends. He enjoyed polka music, attending concerts, volunteering at various
organizations, and later in life, spent winters in Arizona. Frank was a very talented wood carver
belonging to the Kettle Karvers Klub.
Survivors include his wife, Marlys; one daughter Liz Nitsch of Sheboygan Falls; three sons,
Tom (Terri) Lohr of Plymouth, Bill (Kathy) Lohr of Texas, Richard (Jill) Lohr of Sheboygan Falls;
two step-daughters, Terri (Bob) Witte of Arizona and Diana Portlance of West Bend; and step-
son Mike (Susan) Nonhof of Arizona; seven grandchildren Amy (Kyle) Jones, Julie (Derek) Otis,
Matthew (Val) Lohr, Adam Lohr, Aaron Lohr, Braden Nitsch, Tristan Nitsch, six great-
grandchildren; step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other
relatives, and many friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his first wife, Violet, parents Frank and Hilda Lohr, brother
Don Lohr, sister Lillian Conto, five brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in
Sheboygan. Visitation will take place from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with services to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name for American Legion Post
149 and Kettle Karvers Klub.
