A portion of a total $10 million grant will fund a project in Manitowoc that will enable improvements to one of its major manufacturer’s facilities. City Centre LLC which serves as a hub for Manitowoc’s riverfront and harbor businesses, is one of five recipients of a Wisconsin DOT Harbor Assistance Program grant designed to strengthen reliability, support waterborne freight, and assist with economic development. The $1.8 million headed to Manitowoc will be used to construct a load-out pad on the Manitowoc River for assembling, testing, and shipping new portal jibs designed by Konecranes Inc.
The Harbor Assistance Grant program focuses on public and private harbor facilities for projects that support cargo transfer, shipbuilding, commercial fishing, vessel cruises or ferry service, and are part of a current three-year harbor development plan. Manitowoc’s most recent plan was approved last March.
