A cut in a fiber optic network cable is apparently behind interruption to emergency cell-based services on Tuesday. The interruption was noted shortly after 2 p.m. when the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office advised that some of the County’s administrative lines, as well as carrier-based 911 services were out-of-order. The problem was traced to AT&T, and a temporary cell phone tower was put in place until complete repairs could be made.
A similar interruption affecting Columbia, Adams, Iowa, Marquette and Richland Counties occurred on Monday. The two don’t seem to be related, and neither case appeared to be intentional.
