SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – After reaching a peak of 205 active cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County on July 29th, the active case count has been on a nearly steady decline with only a few bumps. 88 persons are now battling the coronavirus, with 10 more cases added to the total – now 972 – along with 18 recoveries from the disease. Eight persons are currently hospitalized, down one from Monday. Of 27,450 tests conducted, 3.5% have been positive. 90.1% of all cases have now recovered, 9.1% have ever been hospitalized, and 8 persons, or 0.8% of cases, died of the disease. 3,860 of all tests conducted in the county so far were done by the National Guard according to figures released Monday.
Although total test numbers more than doubled since Monday, the percent of positive returns in Wisconsin came down to 6.4%; 638 of 9,987 returns reported since Monday to the State DHS were positive, raising the confirmed case count in the state to 71,492. The 7-day average percentage is steady since Sunday at 8%. 13 more persons died, contributing to the present toll of 1,094. 37 more persons entered hospitals for treatment of their symptoms, and of the 337 how hospitalized, 121 are in the ICU and 351 persons overall are on ventilators – that out of a total supply in Wisconsin of 1,947
Wisconsin has only 25% of its 11,492 hospital beds still immediately available. To put that in perspective, Sheboygan County Health Ordinance #3 which is being considered by the Executive Committee Tuesday evening, would in part enable emergency powers if 50% of the county’s 34 beds of the ICU’s and additional surgery beds of St. Nicholas and Memorial hospitals combined become occupied by COVID-19 patients. Again, the total here is 8.
