SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – A child is at Children’s Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound on Sheboygan’s south side Monday. Sheboygan Police were called to the home on S. 17th Street and found a child had grabbed ahold of a loaded handgun in the home. The gun had gone off and the child suffered an injury to their hand. The child was taken to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. A man and woman were home at the time and they are cooperating with police and Child Protective Services.
The Sheboygan Police Department is reminding people who have weapons in their home that they should always be kept unloaded, secure, and out of the reach of children. They recommend using a trigger lock or a gun safe.
