The first Cold Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Sullivan covered Sheboygan County and all but far southern and western Wisconsin overnight until 10 a.m. The Wind Chill hit zero by 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheboygan County Airport, and reached the mid-20’s below by 4 a.m. The Cold Weather Advisory replaces what was formerly known as a Wind Chill advisory, and is more fine-tuned to the area and those affected, but the bottom line hasn’t changed – when it’s this cold, life and health can be at risk due to exposure.
The Sheboygan County Warming Center was one place available for people without shelter to stay safe. The facility at St. Luke United Methodist Church at 6th and Ontario Avenue is a privately-funded, low-barrier facility for adults needing a safe, warm place to spend such nights, and also helps people get on a path to independence.
Though it will remain very cold today, the arctic air will gradually loosen its grip, with wind chills returning above zero by midmorning Friday, and actual temperatures above freezing by Saturday morning, and no further advisories are expected for the near term.
