Efforts by the City of Sheboygan to foster its share of affordable solar energy have been recognized by a national program designed to promote its local growth.
SolSmart, led by the Interstate /Renewable Energy Council, the International City/County Management Association and others, awarded the City of Sheboygan a Silver designation for 2024. Sheboygan had previously been a Bronze awardee in 2019. Awards in four levels are based upon the achievements of local governments in deployment of solar energy.
In making the announcement, the City noted steps it’s taken such as training permitting and inspection staff on best-practices concerning solar systems; zoning regulations that allow solar energy installations by-right in all major zones; streamlining the process of permitting solar installations so as to reduce timelines and costs; and partnering with local stakeholders to promote solar awareness and education.
