The low roar of fighter jets coming from the evening skies will again be apparent this week. The 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard will conduct evening training flights this week Monday through Thursday, December 9-12. The 115th is based out of Truax Field in Dane County, however a controlled airspace over Lake Michigan provides an ideal training grounds – or skies – for the fighter unit.
The new F-35 Lightning II aircraft arrived at Truax Field in April of 2023, only the second such unit in the nation. Training exercises often take the aircraft across east-central Wisconsin on the way to the skies over Lake Michigan.
Officials at the 115th said that pilots operating this week’s exercises will follow flight paths designed to minimize noise to area residents, and will typically conclude by 9 p.m.
