(WHBL) – Much as the pandemic has been a scourge, it’s been an opportunity for ne’er-do-wells looking to make a quick buck. The Wisconsin Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protection is out with the latest as it’s sent warning letters to Elite Hearing Centers of America, which the state says made misleading advertisements and social media posts that suggested the company could provide up to $3,000 from a government COVID-19 stimulus program to customers who purchase their hearing aids. The problem is, there’s no such program and those ads violate Wisconsin law that makes it illegal to make any assertion, representation, or statement of fact that is untrue, deceptive, or misleading with the intent to sell anything.
The letters warn the recipients to cease making all deceptive claims and also instruct them to notify the Federal Trade Commission and State of Wisconsin within 48 hours of actions they’ve taken to address the concerns.
