PITTSBURGH, PA (WHBL) – David Phelps gave up a two-run homer to Gregory Polanco in the bottom of the eighth as the Pirates nipped the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 in Pittsburgh on Sunday, sweeping the three-game series. Phelps fell to 2-3 after giving up the homer in relief.
Justin Smoak went 2 for 4, with a double, a two-run home run and three RBI for Milwaukee, which has lost four straight to dip to 11-15.
Polanco finished 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases. Chris Stratton got the win out of the bullpen, his first, and Richard Rodriguez picked up his first save.
The Brewers return home for the next ten games beginning with game one of a four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds Monday night.
