The spectacular accident that landed a Sheboygan Police Squad Car on its roof was the last part of a chase between the two vehicles involved.
The Sheboygan Police Department reports that they were attempting to stop a speeding vehicle on Sheboygan’s northeast side at around 8:13 p.m. Sunday when lights and sirens were activated, motivating the driver of that vehicle to flee. Moments later while attempting to locate the vehicle, the squad was struck broadside by the car being chased, rolling it over and stopping the suspect in his tracks.
The 25-year-old Sheboygan man driving the car remained on the scene and was arrested. He’s now facing numerous charges including Fleeing and Eluding an Officer, Operating with a Restricted Controlled Substance, and Failure to Stop for a Stop Sign.
The officer was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released; the driver and two passengers of the suspect vehicle received minor injuries and declined treatment.
The accident remains under investigation, and additional information is being requested by the SPD at 920-459-3333.
