Sheboygan’s Common Council meeting scheduled for Monday evening has been cancelled. According to Deputy City Clerk Melissa Clevenger, this was due to lack of a quorum. According to the Sheboygan Code of Ordinances: “Two-thirds of the members elected to the common council shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business, but a lesser number may adjourn any meeting or compel the attendance of absent members. The mayor shall not be counted in determining whether a quorum is present at a council meeting.”
Although no specifics were given or members identified, that same code of ordinances states that: “No member of the council or the city clerk shall absent himself from the meetings of the council, unless for illness or other good cause, without first having obtained leave of absence from the presiding office. No member present at a meeting shall leave the council chamber without permission from the chair.”
