The first large-scale changes to Fountain Park will most likely be getting the go-ahead when the Sheboygan Common Council meets tonight.
Aside from the current water feature, it’s been nearly 60 years since Fountain Park has had a major renovation. The so-called “Ring Concept” was selected from three options after public input earlier this year.

The original round pavilion was replaced in 1966 with the current band shell, but now a new amphitheater is planned to be just one of about a dozen features in the plan that includes a new fountain, food & drink garden, plaza, so-called “nodes”, one for art and play and another for picnics, and a central enclosed building, all surrounded by a market promenade. The war memorial is being retained with another also appearing in the new design.

The Fountain Park plan will be among dozens up for expected approval en-masse. Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
