
Robert H. Walvoort, 96, lifelong resident of the Oostburg area, died Sunday morning, November 10, 2024, at Pine Haven Christian Home in Oostburg.
Robert was born October 25, 1928, in Oostburg, the son of Ben and Elsie (Rushton) Walvoort. He attended Oostburg High School, graduating in 1946. He went on to serve his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.
On July 11, 1951, he was united in marriage with Lillian Dekker in Sheboygan.
For 35 years, Bob worked in construction for Gabes Construction and Joe Schmitt & Sons. He retired in 1991, but enjoyed physical labor and continued chopping wood and digging out stumps well into his 90’s.
Bob was a member of the Oostburg Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon, usher and elder. A faithful servant who enjoyed serving God and others, Bob helped deliver to the food pantry until earlier this year. He also served on the board of Oostburg Christian School.
An avid outdoorsman who appreciated God’s creation, Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved and cared for his family deeply and looked forward to playing dominos and spending time with them.
He is survived by three daughters, Ellen (Dennis) Covel of Wichita, KS, Marjorie “Marge” (Lyle) Faber of Escondido, CA, Sandra (Gary) Westra of Hull, IA; three sons, Ronald (Lynn) of Oostburg, Kenneth (Judy) of Sioux Center, IA, and Robert A. (Shara) Walvoort of Oostburg; 21 grandchildren, Levi (Christina), Luke (Kim), Aaron (Jessica), Reuben (Kyla) Faber, Katie (Brian) Wieringa, Andrew (Samantha), Jane, Ben Kroese, Garrett (Jackie), Adrianna (Luke) Ganz, Richard (Brianna), Timothy (Oliv) Walvoort, Peter (Brianna) Walvoort, Amy (Jeremy) Jensema, Jessica (Stephen) Wanninger, Anthony (Smaranda), Reuben, Shana, Camber, Monet, and Lincoln Walvoort; 27 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Mary Ann Prinsen of Cedar Grove; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lillian, son-in-law Kevin Kroese, brothers Glenn (Nancy) Walvoort, George (Lennis) Walvoort; sisters-in-law Kathryn (Henry) Otte and Jane (Dr. BJ) Boerkoel; brothers-in-law Peter (Lillian) Dekker and Warren Prinsen.
A funeral to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at Oostburg Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11:00 am with the Rev. Drew Zylstra officiating. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service on Bob’s obituary page at www.wenigfh.com . Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00-11:00am. He will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in the town of Holland beside Lillian.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Pine Haven Christian Home.
