A slow-speed pursuit in Fond du Lac County on Halloween ended with an arrest in a hay field. The vehicle involved was reported stolen from a local rental business, which had recorded the name of the suspect and potential address where the vehicle could be found. The suspect, it turns out, was already known from a previous high-speed chase and was flagged as an “Officer Safety Risk”, sending multiple Sheriff’s Deputies and officers from the North Fond du Lac Police Department in response. The rental company was able to electronically locate the vehicle, and a deputy followed it southbound on Highway “V” to provide backup in case he tried to flee.
The driver slowed for a traffic stop, but continued anyway at slow speed with officers in pursuit, and called during the chase questioning the legitimacy of the stop. The suspect eventually drove into a hay field where he was boxed in and arrested. The 32-year-old North Fond du Lac man was taken to St. Agnes Hospital for medical clearance and charged with felony fleeing and eluding, operating without the owner’s consent, and two counts of felony bail jumping.
