While the threat of severe thunderstorms has departed, howling Halloween winds remain a concern worthy of a cautionary warning from the National Weather Service. That warning is a Wind Advisory in effect between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. today for westerly winds behind a fast-moving cold front that will gust to as high as 50 mph as it passes around noontime. Afterwards, winds will remain gusty to between 45 and 50 mph at times, threatening to dismantle Halloween displays and pummel trick-or-treaters with wind chills in the upper 30s. It’s also possible that scattered tree limb damage could occur, and that could cause a power outage or two.
If there is good news in the forecast, it’s the absence of rain after the noon hour and before 8 p.m. when a few showers could again show up until midnight. Bottom line, batten down the hatches and layer up for warmth.
