Voters in the Sheboygan Area School District are being asked to pass a referendum to rebuild the Urban and Farnsworth Middle Schools, a move the District says is good for the taxpayers’ bottom-line.
The referendum is asking for a $121 million investment for rebuilding and improving the nearly 100-year-old buildings while increasing safety and security, improving bus and parent drop-off and pickup, and expanding classroom sizes and commons areas.
The SASD says that passage would mean a property tax mill rate increase of 20 cents per 100 thousand dollars valuation, and the district offered an online calculator residents can use to figure their personal impact. You can access that here.
In light of that projected increase, the SASD adopted two versions of the budget and tax levy at their October 22nd meeting, and the flexibility that achieved means that with passage of the referendum on Tuesday, they’d be able to decrease the tax levy for school purposes by 1.0%, and decrease the tax mill rate by 10.7%.
