Visit Sheboygan, the City’s tourism agency, says that the 2nd Annual Sheboygan Midwest Challenge, produced by Powerboat P1 this past August, generated big crowds – and big money for the Sheboygan area.
Over the 3-1/2 days of racing, including the downtown block party, visitors and attendees numbered some 21,000, and total visitor spending was more than $3.3 million. Those numbers were based upon surveys conducted with local lodging properties, crowd counts during the race, and feedback from hospitality businesses, while the data was compiled using per-person spending estimates provided by the Wisconsin State Department of Tourism. The event also showcased the City to some 230 million homes that streamed the races around the globe.
According to Powerboat P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala, Sheboygan confirmed this year that it deserved its designation as 2023’s best APBA race site, noting that Sheboygan stands out for its beautiful water, lodging options, outdoor recreational space, and a local government group that has embraced the sport of offshore racing.
Following its second successful year, Sheboygan was confirmed as the host of 2025’s 3rd Annual Sheboygan Midwest Challenge.
