After one of the wettest springs on record, Sheboygan County is now in the grips of a drought. The National Weather Service’s Drought Monitor, which assesses conditions nation-wide, has determined that Sheboygan County has now progressed from “Abnormally Dry” to a “Moderate Drought”. The condition began on October 15th, despite initial predictions that drought would not develop this month.
NOAA meteorologists report that as of Thursday, the entire county is under a moderate drought condition.
Sheboygan County has recorded just over one-half (.52”) inches of rain so far this month, and with only one week left, it’s unlikely that the normal of 2.16” will even be approached as one-quarter of an inch or less of precipitation is predicted for the remainder of the month – most of that occurring tonight into Friday.
Over the next month – and for that matter, the next three from November through January, temperatures are expected to average above normal, while precipitation is given even odds of either above or below.
