Area young people are getting the chance to do hands-on exploration of science and technology, thanks to a mobile laboratory that’s in town today and Thursday.
The Curiosity Cube is an idea born from scientists from MilliporeSigma, the US and Canada Life Science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, which has a facility in Sheboygan. The lab is a converted shipping container that hosts three interactive experiments, led by real-life MilliporeSigma scientists. Visiting students will use modular electronics, digital microscopes and other scientific tools to learn about sustainability.

The Curiosity Cube is geared towards closing the gap in Title-1 schools, where students tend to have fewer opportunities to experience hands-on science. Last year, 95% of visits by the Curiosity Cube in the US were to Title-1 schools.

The lab was at Manitowoc’s STEMFest on Tuesday; today it will be at the Mead Public Library from 2:30 until 5:30 where the public is welcome to visit and explore. The Curiosity Cube moves to the Sheboygan STEAMFest in Plymouth for those attendees only between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow.
