A portion of nearly $190,000 in grants from the US Department of Agriculture will be made available for use by the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation. The Rural Business Development Grants Program award was announced on Wednesday. The funds were included in legislation supported by US Senator Tammy Baldwin, who issued the announcement. Baldwin said “Moving our ‘Made in Wisconsin’ economy forward means investing in every corner of our state to create economic opportunity for families.”
The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation received $99,000 in order to establish a revolving loan fund to serve at least 10 small rural businesses in Sheboygan County. SCEDC Executive Director, Brian Doudna, told WHBL News that the loan fund “will be a new financial tool for supporting local entrepreneurs with products in development.” He continued: “Now that we have solidified all funding for the program, we are in final design mode and will announce the program in the first quarter of 2025.”
The remaining $90,000 of the award went to the Oconto County Economic Development Corporation to provide technical assistance to small, rural businesses located in that county. Assistance will be targeted for those located in the villages of Suring and Lena. A minimum of 10 businesses will be served, creating five jobs and saving another five.
