Improvements are coming to the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport thanks to an infusion of federal dollars. US Senator Tammy Baldwin announced on Monday that Sheboygan County’s is among seven airports – along with the State of Wisconsin – in line to receive a total of over $34 million from the FAA Airport Improvement Program. That program provides grants for the planning and development of public-use airports, and improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns.
$1,001,803 of that money will be directed toward the Sheboygan County Memorial airport, where it will be used to construct a new paved taxiway to bring the airport into conformity with current standards. Other airports included are Sawyer County, Kenosha Regional, Appleton International, Central Wisconsin, Chippewa Valley Regional, and Dane County Regional.
The State of Wisconsin award of nearly $15 million ($14,961,944) will be used to administer Airport Improvement Program sub-awards for various projects at non-primary airports within the state.
