
Dorothy Burhop, a cherished wife, mother, and devoted teacher, passed away on the
evening of September 6, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. Born on January 8,
1951, Dorothy lived a life marked by her unwavering compassion and commitment to
helping others.
Dorothy was a devoted parent who actively engaged in her sons' lives with unwavering
dedication. She immersed herself in their after-school programs and extracurricular
activities, always being present for their events and celebrations. Her support was a
constant source of encouragement, and she took immense pride in their achievements
and guided them through their challenges. Dorothy’s commitment to her children’s
development went beyond the typical parental role; she nurtured their talents and
passions with a genuine, hands-on involvement that left a lasting impact on their lives.
Her career as a teacher was a testament to her deep compassion and dedication. She
taught at various schools in Nekoosa and Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where she embraced
each child’s unique journey with patience and empathy. Her work went beyond simply
providing education; it was a heartfelt mission to empower and uplift every student she
encountered. The impact she made on her students was profound, reflecting her
commitment to their growth and well-being.
Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support extended far beyond her professional
life. Dorothy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her ability to listen and comfort,
and the many lives she enriched through her compassionate work and dedicated
parenting. Her influence as a mentor, friend, and advocate will be felt for years to come.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, David Burhop; her two sons, Samuel
(Melanie) and Timothy (Alexandra) Burhop; and her beloved grandsons, Brayden and
Baylor Burhop. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins, whose lives she
touched with her warmth and kindness. Her family was the center of her world, and her
legacy of love and care will continue to inspire those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary; and her siblings, Ann, Mary,
and John. Dorothy’s enduring spirit and the love she shared with her family will be
remembered and cherished.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 3:00 p.m., at St. Paul
Lutheran Church, 730 County Rd. PPP in Sheboygan Falls, with Pastor Kyle Backhaus
officiating. Friends and relatives may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. until the time of
service at the church.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at a later date, allowing friends and family to
gather and share memories of the remarkable woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the
family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, honoring
Dorothy’s lifelong commitment to supporting children’s health and well-being.
Dorothy’s memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and served so well.
Though she faced her illness with great bravery, she will be deeply missed but fondly
remembered for the love, dedication, and joy she brought into the world.
