There’s an old saying that: “You can’t fight city hall”. That concept was proven wrong recently when a local industry fought against what it considered unfair taxing, and won before the Wisconsin Tax Appeals Commission.
JLFrench/Nemak had appealed its 2021 assessment of taxes by the City of Sheboygan, and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue’s Tax Appeals Commission recently found in favor of the company to the tune of $4,141.24, which the Commission ordered be refunded as excess property tax. As other taxing jurisdictions were involved, the City has requested a chargeback from the State to recover a portion of the amount refunded.
The repayment should get the approval of the Finance and Personnel Committee when it meets this coming Monday.
