Kettle Moraine State Forest
A lost camper was located slightly injured, but otherwise safe on Sunday after wandering away from his Long Lake campsite cabin on Saturday night. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was notified about the missing 74-year-old Milwaukee man at around 9:30 Sunday morning and first called in a K-9 unit from the City of Fond du Lac to begin tracking the man by about 10:15 a.m.
After having no success finding the track of the man, who suffers from Parkinson’s and other medical issues, area first responders – assisted by an aerial drone – did a grid-pattern search of the area where the man had last been seen. He was located shortly before 11 a.m. about 160 yards from his cabin. The man, who had minor injuries and appeared confused, was retrieved from the densely-wooded area and taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac for further evaluation. It’s currently unknown how long he was outside and wandering the surrounding Kettle Moraine State Forest.
