The City of Plymouth is the site of a new proposed housing development, spearheaded by the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation. Steps needed to go forward began with the submission of a rezoning request for 32 acres of land in that city. The site, as yet unnamed, would eventually feature a variety of single-family homes, and could also include a lot allocated for other housing options that would be made available to third-party developers.
The project will be the third subdivision of the SCEDC’s Housing Initiative funded by the Forward Fund. That’s a pool of money created through generous donations of $2 million each by Johnsonville, Kohler Company, Masters Gallery Foods and Sargento. Sheboygan County also steered $2 million in ARPA funds to advance the housing program. Forward Funds can only be used to fund hard-to-find, entry-level single-family homes. The other two projects are the Founders’ Pointe subdivision in Sheboygan Falls already underway, and the adjacent Founders’ Pointe Neighborhood which begins construction sometime this fall.
SCEDC Executive Director Brian Doudna said that the organization will be working with the City of Plymouth over the next several months to finalize the development scope as part of the project’s due diligence period.
