SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Dane Checolinski, Director at the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation, is stepping down from his post to open his own business. Checolinski has been at the helm of the job development entity since 2011.
The SCEDC was formed to create jobs during the recovery of the Great Recession, and SCEDC Chair Gary Dulmes said Checolinski “made a very positive influence on Sheboygan County.”
During Checolinski’s tenure, the SCEDC transitioned from the role of creating jobs to that of filling them. The agency uncovered the need for housing an incoming workforce that eventually resulted in adding 1,600 housing units in the county, more than the Village of Howards Grove, and as demand for workers grew even more, the website SomeplaceBetter.org was launched to attract more people to the area. Some 25,000 people from elsewhere have since searched the site for jobs here.
Under Checolinski the SCEDC as a team aided no less than 150 companies, oversaw $417 million in investment, and impacted nearly 5,000 jobs.
The search for a new director comes as Executive Director Dr. Joseph Sheehan, former Sheboygan Area School District Superintendent, plans his second retirement.
