CHICAGO, IL (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers took two of three against the Chicago Cubs after a 3-2 win in the series finale from Wrigley Field on Wednesday afternoon.
William Contreras doubled-home Blake Perkins to break a 2-2 deadlock in the top of the ninth inning.
Joel Payamps earned the save in the bottom-half of the frame to secure the victory.
Jakob Junis earned the win in relief as Milwaukee has won four of its last five games to remain first in the NL Central at 59-43.
Hector Neris got the loss in relief. Seiya Suzuki slugged a solo shot as Chicago has lost three-of-five to drop back to last in the division at 49-55.
The Brewers have Thursday off, then will begin a six-game homestand starting with a three-game weekend series against the Miami Marlins at American Family Field. Game one is Friday night.
Meanwhile, Christian Yelich could miss significant time with a major injury. The Brewers placed Christian Yelich on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with back inflammation.
He’s scheduled to see a spine specialist Thursday, which could determine if he needs season-ending surgery. Yelich has been dealing with back problems for weeks.
