High water levels in Winnebago County have receded, leading officials to lift restrictions on fast boating. Repeated periods of excessive rain had raised levels on Lake Winnebago and connected waters to high enough levels that shoreline erosion from boat wakes was a problem. The Sheriff’s Office there declared a flood emergency earlier this month, imposing a Slow-No-Wake rule within 500 feet of any permanent structure. But as July dried out, waters receded, and boaters are now free to rev their engines – within any local limitations you’ll find posted at most boat launches.
