Two Green Bay residents were arrested in Fond du Lac after leading police on a reckless, multi-county, high-speed chase on Sunday night. Events began at about 6:30 p.m. when a State Patrol Trooper began chasing a stolen vehicle southbound on I-41 in Winnebago County, prompting Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies to prepare for the chase, but the vehicle exited into the City of Oshkosh, heading south on Lakeshore Drive.
Deputies re-located the vehicle, now with a different license plate, and chased it as it passed multiple vehicles, narrowly missing some northbound traffic. The chase was terminated out of safety until being picked up again near Taycheeda where the pursuit entered Highway 151 and then exited on Johnson Street where more traffic was forced to swerve to avoid collisions. Several PIT maneuvers were required to eventually stop the vehicle which ended up crashing into a tree.
The 23-year-old male driver and a 22-year-old female passenger, who admitted to smoking fentanyl during the chase, were treated for minor injuries and arrested. Both had outstanding warrants and will be facing multiple, additional charges following the chase.
