Two persons, the sole occupants, died when the plane they were in went down near the EAA Airventure, Oshkosh event on Monday. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office said the plane went down at about 12:50 p.m. in a farm field in the area of Old Knapp Road and Nekimi Avenue in the Town of Nekimi, about two miles south of the EAA Airventure event. Air traffic controllers at the Wittman Airport were the first to report the incident, which drew response from the Sheriff along with fire departments from the Cities of Oshkosh and Van Dyne, the Nikimi Fire Department and First Responders, along with the Wisconsin State Patrol and members of the National Transportation Safety Board.
The plane was found fully engulfed in flame by the first upon the scene, and it was confirmed that there were two occupants, now both deceased. The names have not been released pending notification to the family, and the NTSB is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.
