City streets are not the place to park anything but your car, truck or SUV, but it’s apparent that other vehicles – or their accessories – are also spending the night parked curbside. With that comes a reminder from the Sheboygan Police Department that there’s an ordinance that prohibits the overnight parking of trailers, campers, and boats on city streets…with an important exception.
The ordinance is specifically aimed at trailers that aren’t connected to a legally-registered and operable tow vehicle. So if you have a pop-up camper it will need to be in an off-street location once it’s disconnected…same with boats or their trailers. But here’s a catch – there are also housing and building codes that prohibit the storage of those same things, as well as any other vehicle, tractor, snowmobile or ATVs on lawns and unpaved surfaces. There are a few exceptions, and as many as six waivers can be granted by the SPD to any one address within a calendar year. Call 920-459-3342 to obtain a permit.
