SHEBOYGAN, Wis, (WHBL) – Sheboygan County reported 25 percent voter turnout in Tuesday’s Partisan Primary. Across the state, turnout is typically low for an August Primary – between 15 and 25 percent.
The biggest decision locally was to determine who will face Republican Glenn Grothman to represent the Sixth Congressional District. Jessica King won the Democratic vote, taking 3/4 of the votes.
There were 900,000 absentee ballots cast statewide for the primary. Analysts say this could be an early sign of a strong turnout in November. Election officials say there were no major problems at the polls, and Wisconsin Elections Commission Spokesman Reid Magney says there were no problems with absentee voting.
In Milwaukee, a machine that opens envelopes broke down, which meant counters had to open envelopes manually.
