The hot, humid weather expected today could be dangerous for those outdoors, and also for those indoors without air conditioning. The National Weather Service says that the heat index could reach dangerous readings between 95 and 97 this afternoon. And while you can’t control the weather, how you handle it is mostly up to you.
If you work outside, officials advise you stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible. Save strenuous activities for cooler weather if you can, be sure to check on the elderly, sick and those without A/C, and NEVER leave kids or pets unattended in a locked vehicle.
And if you’re one who doesn’t have air conditioning, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health wants you to know there are places where you can go to chill off. Cooling sites have been named throughout the County that offer escape from extreme summer weather. And although they don’t provide showers, food or other services, the locations are air conditioned and open to the public, such as libraries and community centers.
