Colleen E. “Cully” Schoen, 77, of Sheboygan, passed away Thursday morning, July 4, 2024, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice surrounded by her family.
Born March 17, 1947, in Sheboygan, Colleen was a daughter of the late Eldred and Grace Shavie Fessler. She attended Sheboygan area schools and graduated from Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah High School in 1966. On May 24, 1974, she was united in marriage to Theodore W. “Teddy” Schoen, Jr. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were married for 47 years before Teddy preceded her in death on September 26, 2021.
Colleen worked for American Orthodontics in Sheboygan for many years before her retirement in 2009. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls. One of her greatest passions was playing softball as a pitcher for 40 years, retiring at the age of 58. She will always be remembered for her unlimited arch pitching and her reputation for her intimidating pitching style. She was inducted into the Sheboygan Softball Hall of Fame where she also served on the board of directors. She played for many teams over her softball career including the Trilling Poolettes, Futzie’s Bar, Sheboygan Chevrolet and Dave’s Who’s Inn. She also enjoyed and excelled at league bowling at the various lanes in Sheboygan and was also part of a traveling team and made an appearance on Bowling with the Champs in the 80s. She was a skilled trap shooter often finishing a season with the high female score. She enjoyed fishing as well as turkey and goose hunting with Teddy and her children.
Colleen cherished her family and found immense joy in family get-togethers and traditions. She loved taking care of children and is remembered fondly for the baby-sitting memories she provided her many nieces and nephews. She was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren, relishing every moment spent with them and wholeheartedly supporting their various hobbies and interests. She had a special place in her heart for animals and was always ready to greet them with a loving hand and a tasty treat. Her love for rock ‘n’ roll, especially the music of Elvis, was infectious, and she never missed a chance to hit the dance floor. Her warmth, generosity, and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Tammi (Andrew) Perman, Sheboygan, and Mike (Nathan Waller) Schoen, Chicago, IL; her grandson, Carter Perman; her granddaughter, Ellianna Perman; her sisters, Carol Kuether, Santa Barbara, CA, Patti Drews and Janice Crane, both of Sheboygan; her brother, Dr. Richard (Carol) Fessler, Lake Forest, IL; her brothers-in-law, James (Barbara) and John Schoen, Sheboygan; her sisters-in-law, Dianne Fessler, Ft. Meyer, FL, and Maria Kanzelberger, Sheboygan Falls nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Teddy, she was preceded in death by her in laws, Theodore and Helen Schoen; her brothers, Eldred Anthony “Tony” Fessler and Michael Fessler; her sisters, Janet and Catherine Fessler; her brothers-in-law, Robert Kanzelberger, Kenneth Kuether, Lanny Drews, and Douglas Crane; and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Schoen.
A celebration of life for Colleen will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, N6193, WI 32, Sheboygan Falls. The Rev. Dave Patterson will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
